Ted Avory Cup: An Unforgettable Experience

Thursday, October 01, 2015

Congratulations to Bloomington's David Nash and St. Paul's Alexis Nelson who helped the United States defeat Great Britain in the 2015 Avory Cup 38-21 in Charleston, S.C.

Nelson, who was the youngest person to ever play in the Avory Cup, played Open Singles and won both singles matches before losing her final match in mixed doubles.

"Playing in the Ted Avory Cup this year was an unforgettable experience," Nelson said. "I think it is amazing what the ICs are able to do-- put together a strong and challenging competition, while also upholding an excellent standard for sportsmanship and camaraderie. It was refreshing to play in an event where I had the opportunity to make friends with people of all ages from all over the world, with such interesting stories and backgrounds. The Avory Cup was an invaluable experience that provided me with so many new perspectives and insights on the game of tennis."
