A Conversation with Chris Evert

Monday, June 07, 2021

The USIC is pleased to announce the launch today of a new series of “Conversations With Legends” which you can access by clicking here.

Our first episode is a stimulating “Conversation With Chris Evert”—appropriately debuting during Roland Garros for which Chrissie holds the women’s record of seven championships. The “Queen of Clay” has eclipsed even Rafael Nadal with her 125 consecutive wins on clay as compared to his 81!

Many of you may not be aware that Chrissie has partnered with the USIC on three occasions, providing scholarships for USIC Gene Scott scholar-athletes to attend the Evert Academy. The most visible is Lauren Davis, who is currently competing on the WTA Tour at the top tier level, having achieved a career-high ranking of 26 to date. We plan to send a new Gene Scott scholar-athlete to train as soon as we can complete the current round of fundraising and encourage you to make a donation!

A big thank you to USIC member and host Joel Drucker. An historian-at-large for the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Joel’s work appears in such outlets as Tennis Channel, Tennis.com, Racquet and the New York Times. Joel is thoroughly versed on Chrissie’s career and was able to engage her in a lively, in-depth conversation about such topics as her own approach to winning and learning from losses.

The conversation covers not only Chrissie’s playing days – including career-changing matches versus big rivals Martina Navratilova and Tracy Austin – but also her commitment to give back to tennis as a coach and mentor, as well as through her charitable initiatives. Chrissie also addresses the contemporary game and players she enjoys watching – guess which current great she would enjoy playing?

If you are looking for an uplifting message, tune in today!

Our next “Conversation With A Legend” will be posted during Wimbledon. We hope you will enjoy making these special connections with tennis Hall of Famers.

Here's to the best of Roland Garros!
