2007 Amigos Cup

April 26 - 29, 2007
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
The 2007 Amigos Cup matches between the IC of Mexico and the IC of the U.S.A. were held in the city of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Following a welcoming party on April 26, hosted by the Mexican IC, match play took place on April 27, 28 and 29. The Mexican IC hosted a dinner on April 27 and a closing reception on April 29, while the U.S. IC hosted a dinner on April 28.

First day's play consisted of 12 men's singles matches, 2 men's doubles matches, 3 women's singles matches and 3 women's doubles matches. At the end of the day, the Americans led by 12 matches to 8.

On the second day, there were 10 men's singles matches, 3 women's singles matches, 1 women's doubles match and 6 men's doubles matches. The Mexicans won 13 of those matches, so that the two day total was Mexico 21, the U.S. 19.

The final day's matches consisted of 6 men's double matches and 2 women's doubles matches, of which each team won 4. The final tally, therefore, was that the Mexican IC regained possession of the Amigos Cup by a score of 25-23. Detailed match results appear below.

The caliber of play was high throughout, as was the sportsmanship. Most important was the feeling of friendship that pervaded the matches and the social events. The social events included all the persons who accompanied the teams. Our Mexican hosts were to be congratulated on putting on the event in a very interesting place, a venue that had not previously been used for Amigos Cup matches. A special feature of these matches through the years has been the movement of playing venue in both countries, thus enabling the visiting team to increase its knowledge of the host country. We hope this aspect will continue for many years.

Members of the U.S. team included the following persons:

Men: Andrew Lake, Gerrit Disbergen, Mark Harrison, James Rombeau, Michael Beautyman, Larry Krieger, Jr., Les Nicholson, David Scott, Tony Franco, Sam Sporn, James Wilson and Broward Craig

Women: Sherri Bronson, Olga Stark, Lola O'Sullivan, Christine Lake and Joyce Craig
