2005 Amigos Cup

May 5 - 7, 2005
Xpu H, Mexico
Club Maeva Tulum Resort

The 2005 Amigos Cup matches were played in XPU-HA, Mexico, May 5, 6, and 7. The venue was the Club Maeva Tulum resort, 50 miles south of Cancun on the Mayan Riviera. A strong Mexican team was the ultimate winner, 24 matches to 17. The first day was shortened by afternoon rain with the U.S. ahead 6 matches to 2, led by Andy Lake, former 30 and over U. S. Champion. Despite giving away 10 years to high ranking Mexican players, Andy won both of his singles matches. On the third day, the dominance of the fine Mexican women's team made it clear that Mexico would be the overall winner. Listed below are the results of the men's and women's matches as well as those of several informal matches played after the winner was decided. Dick Brown and Dick Henry were also members of the U. S. team but were unable to play because of injuries.

As expected, the hospitality shown us by the Mexicans was superb. The accommodations and entertainment of the Club Maeva were fine and the beach was simply beautiful. Our hosts arranged several fascinating outings to nearby sites on the Yucatan Peninsula
