In the first year of the Gottfried von Cramm Cup played at the Frankfurt Tennis Club from August 31-September 3 in Germany, the USIC was proud to join home team Germany, Spain, Great Britain, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Czech Republic in memory of the former French Open winner (1934) and three-time Wimbledon finalist (1935-37.)Von Cramm was also the founding president of the IC of Germany.
The USIC team consisted of Mallory Burdette (former WTA #70 and Stanford NCAA champion), Ali Rauh (former collegiate player at Davidson), Shaun Chaudhuri (former collegiate player at Harvard) and Coach Lindsay Burdette (former NCAA individual and team champion at Stanford). The format was one woman’s singles, one men’s singles, and one mixed doubles match.
Upon arrival on August 31,the US team practiced on the red clay to get adjusted to the conditions and then attended the then attended the Welcome Dinner where the tournament supervisor, Alex Kurucz, introduced all of the teams and unveiled the draw. USIC had two special guests --Ali's Mom and Mallory's friend-- cheering the team all weekend.
