May 31 - June 3, 2007
Barcelona, Spain
Real Club de Polo

The Thirty-fifth annual Potter Cup was held May 31 - June 3, 2007 in Barcelona, Spain at the Real de Polo Club. Participating countries were Spain, Great Britain, Italy, France Belgium, Ireland and newcomers Luxembourg and Russia. The U.S team members were John Chatlak, Tres Cushing, Dan Waldman, Drew Robinson, Rob Bunnen and John Peckskamp (Captain). Spain won the Potter Cup followed by Great Britain, Italy and France, U.S. , Russia, Belgium and Ireland.

In the first round we beat Luxembourg sweeping all singles matches. In the quarerfinals, we lost 4-3 to the Brits. Dany Waldman and Drew Robinson accounted for all 3 points winning their singles matches and teaming to win the doubles. In the back draw the U.S. beat a tough Belgium team 4-3 with the tie being decided by a third set super tie breaker at second doubles. In the finals we swept Russia in singles to finish fifth.

Great Britain added two former ATP touring pros Jeremy Bates and Nick Brown. Jeremy Bates proved to be the top player losing just four games in three matches at number one beating Spain's top player 6-0, 6-0 in their finals match. Spain's depth at singles proved to be too good as they won the other four singles matches handily.

As is always the custom in Barcelona the Spanish IC and the Real de Polo Club treated us with tremendous hospitality. We extend our sincere appreciation for all their efforts to our friends in the IC of Spain.
